The music star was arrested and arraigned before the Lagos State Special Offences Court at Ikeja for violating the COVID-19 order banning interstate travels earlier put in place to curb the spread of coronavirus on Thursday, August 6, 2020.
The Lagos state police command spokesperson, Bala Elkana, said Naira Marley presented himself at the command headquarters.
“We are in court as we speak. He will be arraigned for violating the interstate travel order. That is the aspect that concerns Lagos State,” he said.
It would be recalled that the singer travelled to Abuja, where he held a drive-by concert at the popular Jabi Lake.
The controversial music star was called out for violating the lockdown orders instituted by the government over the surge of the novel virus. The government thereafter shut down the mall and stopped the operation of the airline whose plane he chartered.
This will be the second time the singer will be facing the court for flouting the lockdown orders this year. Recall that the music star was among the celebs who were present at actress, Funke Akindele’s house party on Saturday, April 4.
He was later arraigned on Wednesday, April 8, after he violated the government’s lockdown order by attending the house party. He was, however, pardoned by the Lagos state government.
However, the latest development indicates that the controversial artiste just seems unable to stay out of trouble. It has caused people on Twitter to reflect on his track record.
One user, @otunba_abia, noted: “Looking forward to the day Naira Marley would trend for something good… no manners.” However, for another user, @Tee_Classiquem1, she believes that all of his actions end up being publicity for him.
She tweeted: “Nigerian Government has done more in Promoting Naira Marley than he has done on promoting himself.”
Do you think a day will come when Naira Marley stays controversy-free?
